Books That Make Me Cry

In the old (pre-kid) days I was not the crying type. But something about pregnancy/childbirth/ being a mom has turned me into a pretty big sap. Noel laughs at how often I tear up at cliched items -- I am totally that person that cries at Hallmark commercials now. Even Modern Family made me choke up recently, of all the ridiculousness.

Anyway, if you're looking for a good tearjerker, here are some book recommendations for you!

• Bridge to Terabithia. I'm pretty sure that you're heartless if this book doesn't make you cry. Doomed friendship is so irresistible sometimes.
• The Fault in Our Stars. Granted I was predisposed to like this book (I voraciously read all of Lurlene McDaniel's books in middle school); but I was surprised at how much this book affected me.
• Across Five Aprils. Jethro Creighton's tribulations during the Civil War never fail to bring a tear to my eye. He was such a plucky little kid, in spite of everything.

• Basically anything about Abraham Lincoln. I definitely sobbed out loud while listening to both Team of Rivals and Bloody Crimes  on audio book. His death was just such a waste, it gets me every time. 
• And shortly after Eleanor's birth I tried listening to David McCullough's The Johnstown Flood on audio book, but it kept making me cry so hard that I couldn't see to drive, so I had to quit listening. I've been thinking maybe I should give it another chance, but I don't know, I'm not sure if I'm up for it.

So looking at these selections, apparently I only cry at nonfiction and kids' books. Maybe they're the most believably sad?
