31 Days of Awesome Kids' Books: Mr. Putter and Tabby Spin the Yarn

Elderly Mr. Putter and his cat Tabby live next door to sweet old Mrs. Teaberry and her dog Zeke. Mrs. Teaberry is always bringing Mr. Putter things to eat. Mr. Putter worries that he's not a very good neighbor, since all he does is eat Mrs. Teaberry's food.

So he offers to help Mrs. Teaberry at her knitting party - he will help her serve the tea to her friends. The party is going smoothly, and everyone is having fun while Mr. Putter is in the kitchen getting the food ready.

But unfortunately for Mr. Putter - Zeke and Tabby have other plans. Zeke and Tabby make a mess and Mrs. Teaberry's friends are all upset and ready to leave. Can Mr. Putter save the party before it's too late?

This is a really cute beginning reader book. I like that it's about elderly people actually - it's nice for kids to read books about people of different ages. The illustrations are happy, and have funny little touches that probably only adults would notice. (Like one of the elderly women at the party is wearing a pin that says "Knit Wit".)

There are a whole series of books starring Mr. Putter and Tabby, so if your preschooler/early reader loves the characters, they can read a lot more about Mr. Putter's adventures!
